Sister Sharon (played by Jean Simmons Jean Simmons) is on her missionary journey. On the way, she met a man named Elmer (played by Burt Lancaster). Elmer is a shrewd and cunning opportunist, and he sees business opportunities in Sister Sharon. On the pretext of building a church on the beach, Elmer persuaded Sharon to make money with him. Soon, the innocent Sharon fell in love with Elmer uncontrollably and even dedicated her body to him that should have been dedicated to God. But it didn't take long before Elmer got tired of Sharon and abandoned her cruelly. Lulu (Shirley Jones) is the pastor's daughter. She was deeply sympathetic and angry after learning of Sharon's tragic experience.
