In 1929, Vietnam was a French colony. A 15-year-old French girl (Jane March) studied at a girls' boarding school in Saigon. She went home during holidays. Her mother ran a very small school with very little income. She has two brothers. The eldest brother Bill is addicted to drugs and is domineering.
