Joe Wright · In the summer of 1935, Briony (played by Oriz Ronan), a 13-year-old girl from a well-off British family, had just begun to try writing and had a rich imagination. One day, she secretly discovered that there was an affair between the servant's son, Robbie Turner (played by James McAvoy), and her sister, Cecilia (played by Kate Knightley), and found that he had written her a love letter full of erotic meaning. Briony's rich imagination imagined all kinds of terrible things. When her cousin Lola is raped, Briony is certain she saw Robbie did it, and this accusation lands Robbie unjustly in jail, leaving a heartbroken Cecilia. The Second World War broke out. After being released from prison, both Robbie and Cecilia devoted themselves to fighting to defend their motherland. Briony gave up her studies in Cambridge to become a military medical officer.
