In 1914, in a small town in Devon, the boy Albert (Jeremy Irvine) witnessed the birth of the colt Joey. At the market, it was frequently bid for price, and was eventually pocketed by Albert's father Ted (Peter Mullan) for a sky-high price of 30 guineas. The lame man also offended the landlord. Albert and Joey had fun and shared it with their friends. However, the good times did not last long.
