Oliver Stone · Lang (played by Tom Cruise) has been a competitive boy since he was a child, yearning for a manly life. The young Long was completely conquered by President Napan's inflammatory speech on the Vietnam War. An impulse to challenge and sacrifice for the country gradually grew in Long's heart. After losing a wrestling match, he, who had always been strong, resolutely said goodbye to his lover Donna and college life, and embarked on the road to join the army and fight. However, Lang, who came to Vietnam, did not find the heroism he had longed for here. Instead, he witnessed tragedies against humanity one after another. Long's friend Wilson also died from Long's bullet in a melee. Soon, Long was paralyzed and sent back to the United States. Long, who is in a wheelchair, still insists on his belief in the war launched by the United States. However, after his girlfriend Donna meets Long again, she sadly believes that Long's tragedy is all the fault of the war. Nightmares haunted Long, who went to pay homage to his comrade Wilson. Amidst the anti-war calls, Long finally woke up.
