Burning

Mariam lives with her brother and mother Fariha in a small apartment in Karachi, Pakistan. When Mariam's grandfather died, her grandfather's brother tried to force them to transfer the apartment to him. This is quite common in Pakistan because of the lack of a sound protection mechanism for women’s property rights. Mariam's mother was hit hard by the loss of her father and by loneliness, and was unable to make rational judgments. Mariam was indignant at her mother's foolish behavior. At this time, she secretly fell in love with her classmates and found comfort in them. However, when their relationship takes an unexpected turn, Mariam begins to suffer from nightmares. Meanwhile, her mother, trapped between her powerful uncle and the complex legal system, completely ignored her daughter's deteriorating mental state. Mariam's nightmare gradually intersects with reality. Mother and daughter must work together to defeat the forces, both real and false, that seek to devour them.
