The Legend of the Holy Drunkard

A censor was imprisoned for accidentally killing someone. After he was released from prison, he wandered to Paris. One day, a stranger gave him 200 francs. At first he did not want to accept the money because he knew he would not be able to pay it back. The stranger told him that when he could return the money, he should take the money to a church and give it to "Little Teresa" (meaning Sister Teresa) before he would accept the money. After that, a series of wonderful changes took place in his life. He kept searching for the church and "Little Teresa", and in the process he found his own spiritual salvation. The film depicts the theme of a sinner's search for redemption. Although the film is serious in ideology, the director's approach is quite interesting and the plot is also imaginative. It won the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival.
