Eiji Kurashima (Ken Takakura) who serves as a technical guidance officer in Toyama Prison (played by Yuko Tanaka) has recently lost his wife, and the voice, smile and beautiful singing voice of his wife Yoko (played by Yuko Tanaka) are always lingering in his heart, making him unforgettable. On this day, he received an illustrated letter from Yoko before her death, instructing her husband to scatter his ashes in the sea in Hatsuka, his hometown of Nagasaki. With all the questions in his mind, Kurashima drove on the journey. Along the way, he gets acquainted with the Chinese language teacher (played by Takeshi Kitano) who claims to have recently lost his wife, the cheerful station lunch salesman Tamiya (played by Tsuyoshi Kusanagi) and his taciturn subordinate Nan Yuan (played by Hiroshi Sato), the mother and daughter who run a local restaurant in Hoshika (played by Kimiko Yu & Haruka Ayase), the old fisherman Goro Ohura (played by Hideharu Ohtaki) and his grandson (played by Yamaura Takahiro) ), intertwining the time spent with his wife, Kangjima finally arrived at the end of the journey... This film won the Best Supporting Actor Award (Hideharu Otaki) and the Best Supporting Actress Award (Kimiko Yu) at the 36th Japan Film Awards. The film is also Mr. Otaki's posthumous work.
