Escape from the Nazis

Adapted from Rudiger Bertram's novel of the same name, inspired by real events that occurred during World War II in 1940. It tells the story of Ludwig, a German journalist who was hiding from the Nazis, and his 12-year-old son Rolf, who wanted to go to New York to join his wife. On the way, his father was arrested. Rolf and the Spanish girl Nuria who led the way traveled thousands of miles across the Pyrenees Mountains on the border of Western France to find his relatives. Director Tobias Wiemann used his expertise in road movie themes and went against the serious background of persecution and escape, condensing the cruelty and weight of history into a light comedy full of suspense and set in the vast and magnificent natural scenery. The thrilling escape journey is supplemented by a light and bright tone, showing the courage of the children who had to escape the war alone and surpass themselves.
