The Civet of the Jewish Elder

In the 1920s, the African country Algeria. In a certain Jewish town, there lived the respected elder Shifa and his beautiful and kind-hearted daughter Zarabia who had just entered adolescence. On the one hand, the elder regretted that his once lovely daughter was no longer innocent; on the other hand, he was worried that Zarabia would be tempted by various things that were not in line with the teachings and go astray. On this day, something strange happened in the elder's home. His cat started talking after eating a parrot. The civet cat is full of emotions every day and speaks volumes. In order to avoid any impact on their daughter, the elders forbade the civet from meeting its beloved owner. For this reason, the civet was even willing to be circumcised and join the religion. One day, a mysterious Russian young man suddenly appeared in the town. His arrival brings more unknown experiences and impacts to this small town that is already lively due to the existence of civet cats... The film is adapted from the original work of the same name by the famous French comic writer Yoan Sfar, and won the 2012 French César Award for Best Animated Film.
