Mary and Max

In 1976, 8-year-old Mary Daisy Dingle (voiced by Bethany Whitmore) is a little girl in Melbourne, Australia, who likes the cartoon "Noblit", sweetened condensed milk and chocolate. Mary's mother is an alcoholic, and her father, who works in a tea packaging factory, only likes to make bird specimens. Lonely Mary has no friends, and one day she writes a letter to Max Jerry Horowitz (voiced by Philip Seymour Hoffman) in New York City on a whim, asking where American children come from, and attaches a cherry chocolate bar. Max, 44, is autistic and obese. He also happens to like watching "Noblit" cartoons and eating chocolate. The pen pal relationship between the two lasted from 1976 to 1994, during which each experienced many ups and downs in life, until the adult Mary (voiced by Toni Collette) finally came to New York to visit Marx...
