Raccoons: The New Europeans

Today, around 500,000 raccoons live in Germany. It all started with the fur trade in the first half of the last century. Just because the quality of fur in captivity is lower than that in the wild. After raccoons arrived in an ideal living environment, they multiplied in large numbers and even spread to neighboring countries. Hunters suddenly became concerned about the raccoons' impact on other creatures. For a long time, there were no extensive studies in Europe on how raccoons affected native species. Until 2006, biologists shed light on this issue with gratifying conclusions. This film shows the life of raccoons in forests and cities, and reveals the exciting research results of scientists.
