The long and protracted war has destroyed the morale and fighting spirit of the US military and brought it to the brink of despair. However, the tight battle situation did not allow them to relax or breathe. At this critical and critical moment, the headquarters sent a new commander Frank Savage (Gregory Peck) to take over these teams. Faced with the fierce attack of the German army and the serious losses of the troops, Frank was determined and fearless in the face of danger. With iron discipline and an attitude of leading by example, he led the troops to fight all the way and fight to the death with the German troops. Frank's extraordinary magnanimity and tenacious spirit of resistance deeply infected every member of the team, and the team was able to regain its strength and achieve a major victory. The film won two awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Sound Effects at the 22nd Academy Awards in 1950, and was nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor.
