The Two of Us

In winter, an old lady (Jin Yaqin) living alone in a courtyard welcomed a foreign girl (Gong Zhe) who came to Beijing to study. The girl wanted to rent the old lady's house which was very close to the school, but she thought the old lady's asking price was too high. The old lady looked like she couldn't live with her and refused to lower the price. The girl had no choice but to rent it, and the two began to live a life of host and guest, stumbling and quarreling. Whether it was installing the phone, paying the phone bill, lighting up the electric stove, or borrowing the refrigerator, the girl felt that the old lady was plotting against her, and she felt very aggrieved. The old lady also looked at her with disgust. But as time goes by, the two gradually become dependent on each other. As the days passed by spring and summer, the old lady saw the joys and sorrows of a girl's life, especially in love. Her loneliness in her later years was alleviated a lot by the company of a girl. When autumn came, the girl found a better place to live and wanted to leave the old lady. The old lady's spirit suddenly collapsed.
