According to producer Zhang Baorong, director Lin Rui once met an old Chinese woman who served as a comfort woman for the Japanese army while filming in Jilin, China. The script of the film was adapted and artistically created based on the old woman's oral memories. The old woman is now deceased. The film stars the new generation of Korean actors Han Jiaying, Kim Meimei, and Ley. Han Jiaying plays the role of a Korean comfort woman. Kyoko, a Japanese geisha, is played by Kim Meimei.
