Chemistry class

This play is adapted from the novel of the same name by author, science editor, and advertising copywriter Bonnie Gamers. The story takes place in the early 1950s, when society generally believed that women belonged to the family rather than the professional field. Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson) longs to be a scientist in a world dominated by men. She works in a laboratory and is the assistant of the famous scientist Calvin Evans (played by Lewis Pullman). There is an unusual chemical reaction between the two. However, when Elizabeth finds herself pregnant, alone, and fired from her lab, she puts her dreams on hold and taps into the unique ingenuity of a single mother. Elizabeth accepts a job as a TV cooking show host and begins teaching a nation of neglected housewives and men who are suddenly listening, all while longing to return to the field she truly loves: science.
