Folklore: Water Monkeys

"Water ghosts" are commonly known as "water monkeys". According to folk rumors, they are the resentment of the deceased. Those who drowned, committed suicide by drowning, or died accidentally will linger in the place where they drowned and become water ghosts. Then they will wait patiently in the water, seduce, or force people to fall into the water to death to serve as their scapegoats. For thousands of years, water ghosts have relied on this method to reincarnate without any worries, escaping the suffering from hell. During the Republic of China, there was a place called "Tianshui Village" surrounded by mountains, where my great-grandfather was born. Under the leadership of the village chief Qian Xing, the villagers lived a stable life although they were not wealthy. Until one night, when my great-grandfather came back by boat, strange things began to happen frequently in the village...
