Zhai Yan Tan: Liaozhai Chain

Another cautionary work by great director Yan Jun, it is adapted from the story of the same name in Pu Songling's "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio". It tells the story of a talented woman named Lian Suo (Li Jing) who mistakenly killed a traitor in order to save her father during the late Ming Dynasty, and then committed suicide by throwing herself into a well. More than ten years later, the talented man Yang Yuwei (Li Lihua) fled to the Tang Dynasty (Jing Miao), his father's family friend, to escape the pursuit of traitors. Unexpectedly, the Tang Dynasty Minister refused to take him in because of his influence. Fortunately, his old servant Li Gui (Gu Wenzong) was loyal and led Yuwei to hide in an abandoned library. Yu Wei accidentally met Lian Suo at night, and they met each other night after night, and a love between man and ghost developed. Lian Wei (played by Li Jing), the righteous daughter of Tang Shangshu, and Lian Suo were originally sisters, and they had a long-standing engagement with Yu Wei. Lian Wei was jealous of his dead sister and confused Yu Wei, so he commanded his servants to burn down the library, but unexpectedly lost his footing and died. Lian Suo borrowed his sister's body to resurrect her soul, and finally got married to Yu Wei. In this film, superstar Li Lihua plays the male lead, while "Asian Best Actress" Li Jing plays two sisters, Lian Suo and Lian Wei, one good and one evil, one a ghost, and her performance is outstanding.
