Snake Beating

In October 1980, Hong Kong abolished its hold-down policy and switched to a catch-and-release policy. A group of illegal immigrants from mainland China rushed into Hong Kong during the three-day grace period and smuggled themselves into Hong Kong by swimming, punting, etc. to apply for identity cards. They were kidnapped by "snake-fighting groups" in the border area and used humiliating methods to force them to give out the phone numbers of their relatives in Hong Kong in order to collect ransom. In the end, the "human smugglers" escaped from the clutches of the snake-killing group, but were unfortunately arrested by the police.
