The Summer Palace

The film tells the story of the love-hate entanglement of two young people in China in 1989, when social politics were complicated. Beautiful Yu Hong left her village, family and boyfriend to study in Beijing, where she discovered a new world. And fell in love with Zhou Wei. The relationship between the two becomes dangerous. As a young girl who had just arrived at Peking University from a remote town, Yu Hong had romantic and sometimes desperate thoughts. In her diary, she poured out her desire for a violent life. In the first half of the film, after several periods of friendship, hazy love, and the intense, jealous, on-again, off-again relationship with Zhou Wei, a thin, bookish boy, the love of her life, she satisfied this desire. But Yu Hong and Zhou Wei, as well as their friends and enemies in the film, are not ordinary college students. In other words, their college life has an unusual background. Yu Hong came to Beijing in 1988. Her first year at university began with emotional and sexual chaos and ended with the turbulent social incident.
