The play continues the documentary style of "Starscream" and enhances the overall artistry. Du Xiao said that "Family Files" is not entirely documentary, but the story strives to be true and close to the lives of ordinary people. For this reason, the crew refused to join big names in the selection of actors and chose some very powerful actors. Except for a few actors familiar to the audience such as Shi Ke, Li Ting, Liu Guanjun, most of the actors were new faces.
