In 1937, the Chinese nation entered the most difficult period. The Japanese invaders invaded China, their bloody iron hooves trampled across China, and the raging war burned every inch of the motherland. At a time of national crisis, Chen Jiahu (played by Guo Xiaodong), a doctor of mathematics who has studied abroad for many years, returns to China with his Japanese wife Keiko (played by Yin Mei), hoping to dedicate his little time and energy. Because he had some knowledge of Japan's telegraph codes abroad, Chen became an eager target of the Japanese invaders and an active network target of the Nationalist government. After some twists and turns, he finally joined the "Black Room", a secret code deciphering agency under the control of the Kuomintang military. Although he hated the corruption of the Kuomintang, Chen was still forced to work for the black room under the control of others. During this period, he and Keiko also encountered repeated difficulties from the military commanders due to their special status. At the same time, our party members successfully broke into the black room and made their last efforts for the establishment of New China... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by the famous writer Mai Jia.
