"Kangxi Private Interview 2" follows the play's style of new-school costume light comedy that uses the past to satirize the present and criticizes current ills. It is divided into three unit stories: "The Story of Steamed Buns", "The Story of Longan" and "The Story of Xiapei". "The Story of Steamed Buns" tells the story of Kangxi's fiftieth year. Kangxi (played by Zhang Guoli) was deceived by local powerful men into working in a gold mine during a private visit; "The Story of Longan" took place in the fifty-first year of Kangxi. Kangxi fell ill, and Concubine Yi (played by Deng Jie) asked Sandezi (played by Wu Jun) to ask the imperial doctor for diagnosis and treatment, but the condition worsened. It turned out that it was all fake medicine. After Kangxi recovered, he left the palace and severely punished the lawbreakers; "Xia Pei Ji" tells the story of Kangxi's fifty-second year, when Kangxi killed his relatives and rectified nepotism. The classic costume TV series "Kangxi's Private Interview in Private Clothes" has been produced in five series from 1997 to 2007. These five works have continued the style of the series. They are both solemn and humorous in depicting Kangxi's approachability during private visits in private, while also portraying his mighty side in severely punishing corrupt officials. The first four parts of the series were directed and acted by Zhang Guoli, and the fifth part was directed by Sun Shupei.
