The Woman Looking at the Sea

In the midsummer of 1949, Shuping, the maid of a wealthy businessman in southern Fujian, married to an outlying island. Before she could meet her husband Jin Shui, Jin Shui and the men on the island were captured by the Kuomintang army and taken to Taiwan. Together with the women on the island who lost their husbands, Shuping vowed to serve her parents-in-law and leave a home for her husband. In 1966, women on outlying islands received letters from their husbands from Taiwan one after another. Cai Guofu fabricated the news that Fenfang's husband Yongchun was dead, and married Fenfang as he wished. Yongchun was heartbroken after hearing the news, and he and Zaishun's wife Qiujuan changed from a fake couple to a real couple. In 1987, he started visiting relatives in Taiwan. Gu Yunshu took his first wife Suzhen back to his hometown to meet Yumei and his two sons. Because Yumei had raised Suzhen's son Runze, the two women settled their differences. Gu Yunshu searched for traces of Jin Shui all over Taiwan and learned that Jin Shui had died in an accident. However, Jin Shui did not die, he was just severely disabled in the accident. Shuping went to work at the reception desk for Taiwanese compatriots, hoping that one day she could wait to go home to Jinshui. Finally one day she received an old man with disabled legs. Shuping and Jin Shui recognized each other after taking out their tokens.
