Hongqi Canal

In the summer and autumn of 1959, a severe drought ruthlessly devoured Lin County. River ponds and reservoirs dried up, crops died in large areas, and people and animals were in extreme difficulties with water. A group of people from the Lin County Party Committee, led by County Party Secretary Yang Gui, are determined to completely change the water shortage dilemma of their ancestors in Lin County. After careful field investigation, the county party committee decided to build the Red Flag Canal to divert the Yangtze River into the forest, rearrange the rivers and mountains in Lin County, and completely change the water shortage dilemma of the people of Lin County since ancient times. Yang Guihe and his team of county committee members led the people of Lin County to overcome the difficulties caused by natural disasters and withstand the cynicism of some people. They fought hard to build the "Diversion of the Yangtze River into the Forest Project". After ten years, the artificial Tianhe Red Flag Canal was finally built on the mountainside of Taihang Mountain.
