It is adapted from the novel "The First Grandmaster of Huangmei Opera--The Legend of Xing Xiu Niang" by Zhou Zhuojie / a mythological novelist from Huangmei. The play was filmed / produced and distributed by Beijing Zhongshi Wonderful Film Company in collaboration with the Hubei Provincial People's Government and the Huangmei County Party Committee. Xing Xiu Niang was born in Xing Dadun / Konglong Town / Huangmei County. She was a native of Huangmei County during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. She loved singing Huangmei tune since she was a child. Based on her predecessors / she painstakingly studied the singing skills of Huangmei Opera / formed a theater troupe / and promoted the Huangmei tea-picking opera into a high-stage opera / and sang it all the way to the capital. She was a representative figure of Huangmei Opera in the three provinces of Hubei / Jiangxi and Anhui during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. She was also the founder of Huangmei Opera's development from a folk opera to a high-stage opera. Emperor Qianlong once conferred the title of "Huangmei Famous Actress" / and she can be called a great master. "The Legend of the Grandmaster of Huangmei Opera" interprets the ups and downs of Xing Xiu Niang's legendary life in pursuing her career in Huangmei Opera.
