In 1939, the national army withdrew from the battlefield in central Hebei, leaving behind a batch of arms and supplies aided by the US military and hidden by Zhang Zhiqiang, a man left behind. The war became more and more intense. Seeing that there was no news from the national army, Zhang Zhiqiang decided to deliver the supplies to the Eighth Route Army, which was stubbornly resisting Japan. While meeting with the Eighth Route Army guerrilla captain Ye Lingqing, Zhang Zhiqiang was captured by the incoming Japanese army and the plan failed. During the interrogation of Zhang Zhiqiang, the Japanese army failed to learn the whereabouts of this batch of materials and had to secretly imprison him. In order to find this batch of arms as soon as possible, the Political Commissar of the Eighth Route Army Yu Xiangqiu assigned Ye Lingqing to try to gain the trust of the Japanese army, penetrate into the enemy's interior, find out where Zhang Zhiqiang was held, and try to rescue him. From then on, Ye Lingqing and the Eighth Route Army soldiers began a battle with the Japanese army to find and compete for arms and supplies. Finally, under the leadership and cooperation of the Eighth Route Army, Ye Lingqing and his comrades found the arms and supplies before the Japanese army, and annihilated Matsui's Japanese squadron in one fell swoop, successfully completing the tasks assigned by the party and organization. In the autumn of 1940, under the careful deployment of the Party Central Committee, the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Eighth Route Army launched a comprehensive counterattack against the Japanese army, known in history as the Hundred Regiments War.
