The new work written and directed by Angela Shanalek, the founder of the "Berlin School" and film master, is adapted from "Oedipus the King", one of the three major tragedies of ancient Greece. The story is moved to modern times and tells the story of an abandoned son who accidentally killed someone when he was young. While serving his sentence in prison, he fell in love with a woman and gave birth to a daughter, and he gradually became blind. Shanalek attempts to erase overly dramatic conflicts and pushes this well-known story to the extreme of abstraction. He uses rare dialogue and foggy remote European scenery to kick off the modern myth. He uses baroque repertoire, opera, and contemporary independent music as narrative promoters, casting a layer of nihilistic mystery on the tragic fate. Won the Silver Bear Award for Best Screenplay at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival.
