Outsiders (plot commentary)

The story takes place in the beautiful, prosperous and bustling Shanghai. There are infinite prospects and opportunities here, so a group of unknown outsiders came here with the dream of getting rich. What awaited them was not only the infinite hope for the future, but also the ups and downs of life. Rural woman Da Xu (played by Ding Jiali) is an upright, kind-hearted and informal person. Her husband is seriously ill and has huge medical expenses. Therefore, Da Xu comes to Shanghai and makes a living by picking up rags. The contractor Xie Changfa (played by Ma Shaohua) is smart and capable, but he was killed by an adulterer in an accident. Not only did his career suffer, he was also imprisoned. A young tailor, Lu Wenchang (played by Gao Jingwen), has lost all his life savings in an instant. A rural boy, Cricket (played by Huang Bo), comes to Shanghai to pursue love, but his girlfriend Meng Na is not as enthusiastic as he thought.
