When a mysterious plague causes the male population to rapidly decline, the country's women are forced to assume central power roles in Edo society. Yoshimune, the eighth shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, was curious about why women took male names when carrying on the family line, and she consulted an Ooku archive called the "Doomsday Chronicle" that dated back to the time of Iemitsu, the third shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. As he read through the book, Yoshimune began to uncover the history of the inner chamber.
