Avatar: The Last Airbender (also known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang) is an American animated television series aired on Nickelodeon and Nickelodeon for three seasons. The series is created and distributed by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, along with Aaron Ehasz who serve as executive producers. The Avatar takes place in a world of martial arts and elemental manipulation with East Asian overtones. The play mixes East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Western culture, which were traditionally divided into domestic cartoons in the United States before, adding a new atmosphere to domestic cartoons in the United States. The protagonist of this series, An and his friends, must save the world, defeat the evil Lord of the Fire Nation, and end the war started by the Fire Nation. The series first aired on February 21, 2005, and concluded with the critically acclaimed two-hour television movie Sosin's Comet, which aired on July 19, 2008. The show is now available on DVD in the iTunes online music store, Xbox Live store, game store, and its official homepage. The Avatar had more than 5.6 million viewers in its best-rated series and was well-received by audiences and critics alike
