Music-loving Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) was unfortunately born in a large family that regards music as a scourge. The family only hopes that Miguel will grow up quickly so that he can inherit the shoemaking industry that has been passed down for generations in the family. The annual Day of the Dead is approaching. On this day, the souls of deceased relatives can return to the living world to reunite with the living by relying on the photos placed on the altar. In an accident, Miguel actually traveled to the kingdom of the dead. Before the sun rose, he had to get the blessing of a relative, otherwise he would stay in this world forever. Miguel decided to look for the late songwriter Drakus (voiced by Benjamin Bratt), because he is likely to be his grandfather. On the way, Miguel met the down-and-out musician Hector (voiced by Gael García Bernal), and gradually discovered the long-hidden secret of Drakus.
