1947 Independence Mission

In April 1947, the newly born Indonesia sent their first delegation to Cairo, Egypt to perform an important task: to obtain the Egyptian government's recognition of Indonesia's sovereignty and independence. The delegates were initially unaware that they were in danger and were mired in a complex plot for political disaster. The Dutch ambassador did everything he could to thwart the mission, knowing full well that recognition of newly founded Indonesia would prevent the Dutch from colonizing the country again. What was thought to be an ordinary diplomatic event turned out to be an extremely dangerous journey, filled with kidnapping, bribery, espionage, and even murder.
