K-19: The Widowmaker

The film is adapted from a true story. K19 was the Soviet Union's first strategic nuclear submarine. The film's director, Kathryn Bigelow, was the first female winner of the Academy Award for Best Director. Captain Alexey (Harrison Ford) received an order to succeed the original captain Mick Hale (Liam Neeson) as the commander of the nuclear-powered missile submarine K-19 at the most tense moment of the Cold War. Alexi's mission was to put the poorly maintained submarine on operational alert as quickly as possible, at all costs, on its maiden voyage. But the two people and the loyal officers and soldiers of the entire boat never imagined what mission they would perform. Nor could they imagine what the cost of failure would mean to them and the world. At that time, a nuclear reactor malfunctioned, and a dangerous fuel rod was about to melt and cause a nuclear explosion, which would surely kill everyone on board the ship. At that time, they were swimming at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean.
