Family Love Is Priceless

This film is adapted from the 1994 novel of the same name by New York Times columnist Anna Quindlen. After graduating from Harvard University, Ellen Golden (played by Renée Zellweger) worked for a New York magazine. Her career was on the rise, but because her mother Kate (played by Meryl Streep) suffered from cancer, she had to put down her job and return to the small town of Longhorn, Pennsylvania to take care of her family. Allen has always admired his father George (William Hurt), a scholar who teaches American literature, but he doesn't think highly of his mother, a housewife. In the process of taking care of his mother, Allen discovered how difficult her mother's life was and also discovered many dark secrets about her father. Amid the turbulence of family relationships, Allen finally understood his parents for the first time, and finally found the truest touch in his life. The film was nominated for the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award and Golden Satellite Award for Best Actress (Meryl Streep), and was nominated for the American Film Sound Editors Guild Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing.
