Winter's Bone

Rui (Jennifer Lawrence), a 17-year-old girl from the Ozarks in northwest Missouri, takes care of her sick mother, 12-year-old brother and 6-year-old sister alone. Rui's father has been targeted by the police many times for making drugs, and this time was no exception. He has been on the run for months and has not returned. Seeing that the court date was approaching, Rui learned that if her father did not show up, the old house where the family lived as a mortgage would be taken away by the court. Rui is determined to find her father's whereabouts, even if it means contacting her dangerous distant relatives who make a living by making and selling drugs. Rui first turned to her uncle "Teardrop" (played by John Hawkes), but was kicked out; she then went to find her distant relative Mo Lai (played by Dale Dickey), but was ruthlessly expelled. Seeing that the court date is imminent, Rui ignores everyone's dissuasion and gets closer to the truth step by step in this poor and dangerous farming community... The film won the C.I.C.A.E. Award and the Youth Cinema Jury Award (Tagesspiegel) at the Berlin International Film Festival, as well as the Sundance Film Festival Jury Prize and the Waldorf Astor Screenplay Award.
