After Josie (Charlize Theron) separated from her husband, she returned to her hometown in Minnesota with her two children. In order to make a living, she decided to work in the local mines despite her father's objections. After joining the job, Josie understood why her family was so opposed to her decision - women working in the mines had to endure a lot of sexual humiliation and harassment from male workers every day. Even if they tolerated it, they were treated as bitches by the wives of male miners, and even insulted in public. Unable to bear all this, Josie decided to take the mining company to court. This idea put Josie under unprecedented pressure, and the humiliation she received in the company intensified. It also implicated other female employees, making them all turn against her. At home, the children who were subjected to verbal abuse from outside also began to doubt their mother's innocence. Josie carried it all, just to let men know the consequences of disrespecting women... This film is adapted from a real event that happened in 1988. It was the first successful sexual harassment lawsuit in American history.
