Caroline Bender (Hope Lange is a female college student who has just graduated and is working hard in New York. She entered the Fabian Publishing Company as a secretary, and met Greg Adams (Suzy Parker) and April Morrison (Diane Baker), who were also secretaries. Greg and April both liked Caroline, so they invited Caroline to move into their apartment, and the three girls lived together. Caroline's boss, Amanda Farrow (Joan Crawford), suspected that Caroline was trying to replace her position, so she kept making things difficult for Caroline. However, Caroline herself planned to marry her boyfriend Eddie Harris (Brett). Halsey married her as soon as she came back from Europe, and then resigned from the company and devoted herself completely to the life of a housewife. However, unexpectedly, Eddie married another woman in Europe. The heartbroken Caroline had to devote herself to work, and her relationship with editor Michael Rice (Stephen Boyd) became more complicated. April is an innocent girl who was sexually harassed by her boss Mr. Shalimar (Brian Aherne) as soon as she joined the company.
