The Canary of the North

Twenty years ago, the amiable Kawashima Haru (Yoshinaga Sayuri) and her husband Yukio (Shibata Kyohei) ) came to a cold island in Hokkaido. Haru became a teacher for only six students in a local elementary school and discovered their singing talents. However, an accident claimed Yukio's life, and Haru, who was later criticized by the villagers, sadly left the island. Time returns to the present. Haru, who has just retired, is visited by two criminal police officers, and one of the six teenagers from that year, Nobuhito Suzuki (Mirai Moriyama), is involved in a murder. With all the questions in his heart, Haru returns to the island where he has been away for a long time, and successively visits students such as Manami Toda (Hikari Mitsushima), Naoki Ikushima (Ryo Katsushima), Yuka Ando (Aoi Miyazaki), Nanoe Fujimoto (Eiko Koike), Isamu Matsuda (Ryuhei Matsuda). The events of that year left an indelible shadow in their hearts. Can this reunion open up the knots of teachers and students? This film is adapted from "Assignment Twenty Years Later (Twenty Years Later Nostalgic Question)" from Kanae Minato's short story collection "Reciprocal Letters (Reciprocal Letters)".
