Chimes at Midnight

This film is considered by many to be the most accomplished adaptation of Shakespeare's plays, condensing five of Shakespeare's plays. It tells the story of King Henry IV of England who, after he came to the throne, was in constant rebellion and the situation was turbulent, but the prince turned a blind eye and drank and had fun all day long with his close friend the fat warrior Falstaff. Falstaff is a person who likes to brag and does everything. He slandered Henry IV and said that the prince was ineffective in suppressing the rebellion and attributed all the credit to himself. Later, Henry IV died and the prince succeeded to the throne as Henry V. Falstaff thought that he would be promoted to an official position, but he was kicked away by his old friend. It turns out that Henry V tried to cheer up, and those days of dissoluteness never returned, and Falstaff had to die in depression. The director reinterpreted the clown story in his own way, but was sympathetic to him, because the director pointed out that Falstaff's behavior was his talisman against the increasingly changing world. The change in friendship between him and the prince hinted that the world is no longer what it used to be, and the chivalry of the past has also disappeared due to the cunning and ruthlessness of power politics.
