Single Man

This film is adapted from the 1964 novel of the same name by American novelist Christopher Isherwood. The story took place in Los Angeles, California, USA on November 30, 1962. Middle-aged English professor George Firth (Colin Firth) is immersed in the shadow of the death of Jim (Matthew Goode), his same-sex partner of 16 years, who has lived with him in a car accident. He is unable to extricate himself and carefully prepares to commit suicide. The film records George's activities from morning to night, including him studying and teaching, dealing with his relationship with his student Kenny (Nicholas Hoult), and attending a private dinner with his old lover Charlotte (Julianne Moore) in London. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor (Colin Firth), the BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design and the Best Actor Award, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress (Julianne Moore) and Best Original Film Score, as well as the Venice Film Festival Golden Lion Award nomination and the Best Actor Award.
