Rent: Broadway Theatrical

The rock musical "Rent" became the seventh longest-running play in Broadway history on March 1, 2006, and won recognition from the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize. The musical, adapted from Puccini's opera "La Boheme," focuses on a group of impoverished artists and musicians who struggle to survive in Alphabet City, New York, even in the shadow of AIDS (in the case of "La Boheme," it was tuberculosis). The soundtrack of this musical is the most successful recording in the American musical theater industry in the past thirty years. It is available as a two-disc complete version, including a remixed version of "Seasons of Love" sung by Stevie Wonder, and a single-disc greatest hits album. "Rent" was the first Broadway musical to bring issues such as homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgender issues to the stage. All previous productions that touched on these issues were classified as Off-Broadway (with the exception of "A Cage of Stupid Birds"). This film is a live recording of the last Broadway show of Rent on September 7, 2008.
