Compatriots

The story is set in Matsuo Village in Iwate Prefecture. It tells the story of Hideko Kono (Chieko Beisho), the coordinator of the Tokyo Uni Theater Troupe, who visits the area and hopes to lobby the Youth Association to cooperate in producing a musical called "Hometown". Although Saito Takashi (Terao Satoshi), the president, strongly supported the event, the performance encountered great resistance due to issues such as funding and venue. Takashi and Hideko finally overcame all difficulties and finally got what they wanted, giving the most sincere and touching night to more than a thousand audiences. To make this film, Yamada and his production team spent more than a year on-the-spot visits to local performances of the Uni-President Theater Company.
