Anna Akana ("Ant-Man", "The Mind") will star in the new film "Go Back to China" (Go Back to China), directed by Chinese-American female director Ding Yizhen ("Hong Kong Tomorrow"). Akana plays a party girl who squanders her trust fund and is forced by her father to go to China to work for the family toy company. Along the way, she gets the reality check she needs and rebuilds a rapport with her estranged family. Wu Yaohan plays his father, Hu Kelly plays his mother, and Chen Ling plays his half-sister. "This is about my personal experience with my Chinese family, and I've been telling this story for a long time," said Ding. "I'm so excited to be working with these talented Asian actors to bring this story to life. It's an uphill battle to make a movie like this when there's still a lack of representation of Asian Americans in Hollywood, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to tell my story." Co-produced by Unbound Feet Productions, Sophia Shek, Frederick Thornton and others, filming will begin in the spring in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
