In a Foreign Country

Isabelle Huppert plays three completely different women: a French female director, a rich lady in an extramarital affair, and an abandoned wife whose husband was snatched away by a Korean woman. They have very different personalities, but in the story they all come to a foreign land, to a remote beach called Maoxiang, and live in the same "Tianhao Room" in a fresh seaside B&B. They are led by the same girl, meet the same dumb lifeguard with a nice tent, and even the light blue umbrella they borrowed is the same. The story has different developments due to different details. It is not known whether the lighthouse they were looking for but never appeared is the same one. The film was shortlisted for the Palme d'Or at the 65th Cannes Film Festival. French actress and singer Jane Birkin was invited to guest star in the film during her performance in South Korea.
