Room in the City

The story takes place in Nantes, France, in 1955, where a vigorous workers' strike movement was underway, and steel worker Francis (played by Richard Berry) was one of the participants. Francis rented a house in the hands of the widow Margot (Danielle Darrieux). Although Margot was bourgeois, she was full of sympathy for the working class and extended a helping hand to them. Francis has a girlfriend Valette (Fabienne Guyon) who has been in love for many years. Although Valette is pregnant with his child, this cold and cruel man chose to abandon her and instead turned his attention to a woman named Edith (Dominique Sanda). Addis married a wealthy businessman, but her married life made her miserable. In order to relieve her inner resentment, Addis secretly worked as a prostitute.
