The Last Temptation of Christ

This film is not based on the Bible, but uses stories as clues to show the inner conflict of faith in the soul. When Israel was under Roman rule, the carpenter Jesus (Willem Dafoe) made crosses for the Roman army. He was troubled by a call that seemed to come from God. Jesus sets out to search for the truth. On the road, he meets the rebel Judas (Harvey Keitel) and his former friend the prostitute Magdalene. They accuse Jesus of cowardice, which strengthens his faith. More and more believers join Jesus' team. John the Baptist directs Jesus to go to the desert. Jesus resisted the temptation and gained greater strength. He led people to besiege the temple in Jerusalem and ordered Judas to report him to the Roman authorities. On the cross, Jesus received a message from an angel. He stepped off the cross and lived an ordinary life. It was not until many years later that Jesus discovered the truth of the matter and returned to his own destiny... The film is adapted from Kazantzarsky's novel of the same name. Since Scorsese first planned to put the film on the screen in 1983, opposition from religious groups has been loud and clear, resulting in repeated delays in the filming plan.
