Dream of Great Change

Jiang Haixin, a graduate student at the Academy of Fine Arts, accompanied her grandmother Aixinjueluo Deyu to the Tanzhe Temple in the western suburbs of Beijing to sketch. Under the tall imperial tree, her grandmother told Jiang Haixin the legendary love story between her grandfather Aixinjuero Pu Yuan and her grandmother Yun Na. In the winter of 1890 AD, the young and beautiful Mongolian Gege Yunna was teased by a group of idle Belles on her way to Tanzhe Temple. Pu Yuan, who had just returned from a trip to Europe with the minister who purchased guns and ships, saw injustice on the way and drew his gun angrily. Under the tall imperial tree, Pu Yuan and Yun Na fell in love at first sight and ignored the obstruction of the accompanying maid to have a private life. A short gun and a dragon pendant became their lifelong love tokens. Their shocking behavior caused an uproar in the capital. The old prince wanted to kidnap Pu Yuan and send him to the clan's mansion to be punished. Yun Na begged hard. Finally, the old grandmother who had placed high hopes on Pu Yuan discovered the dragon pendant and discovered that Yun Na was actually a descendant of her cousin who was as close as a sister. So, at the prince's house among the flowers in the alley by the seaside, she personally hosted a grand wedding ceremony for Pu Yuan and Yun Na. At the beginning of 1894 AD, people inside and outside the Forbidden City were busy celebrating the 60th birthday of Empress Dowager Cixi, completely ignoring the approaching threat of Japanese militarism. Pu Yuan, who appealed everywhere, was exiled to the naval officer of Liu Gong Island.
