Gift from Heaven

In 1922, Hazabu was born in Xilin Gol grassland. He was very good at singing since he was a child and became famous on the prairie. When the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was established, Hazabu became a soloist in the song and dance troupe and was praised by Chairman Mao as the people's singer. His wife Yideqin persuaded him to return to the pastoral area to sing, but he refused. During the Cultural Revolution, Hazab was unjustly imprisoned. Ten years later, Hazab was released. Yideqin has passed away. In the recording studio, Hazab could not sing the long Mongolian tune that kept climbing up and spiraling down. In the midst of sadness, an improvised long tune "Old Wild Goose" became his last song in this life. In 2005, Hazab passed away quietly in his hometown. In 2008, the United Nations listed Mongolian Changdiao as a world oral intangible cultural heritage protection item.
