[Behind the scenes production] The motivation for filming originated from the sensational strike by female workers at the Omi Silk Company in 1954. However, the movie changes to the main line of college girls fighting against the unreasonable constraints of the school. Shoron Women's University in Kyoto is a conservative-minded university that cultivates students to become good wives and mothers. It strictly controls students' private lives, and anyone who associates with male students will be punished by dropping out of school. Among them, Tomiko Takioka was an outgoing and unrestrained girl who was expelled from school for dating boys. Akiko Murano was the daughter of a school fund donor, but she stood on the opposite side of her family. She made left-wing excited speeches in the school and incited students to respond to the anti-feudal movement. Akiko's approach failed because she was too radical. Finally, the death of Yoshie Deishi finally led to a climax of protest among students and used this debate. Director Kinoshita Keisuke also expressed the view that left-wing students often fall into the weakness of human nature and cannot extricate themselves. This film could be said to be a prophetic work for the global student movement more than ten years later. From some angles, the influence of this film can also be seen in director Nagisa Oshima's new left-wing radical works around 1960.
